The Seedlings Program is a communication and sensory based preschool aged program designed to promote age appropriate speech-language, literacy and social skills specifically for children with Down syndrome. Our multi-sensory environment, run by our certified and licensed pediatric therapists, allows for acquisition and integration of information through all modalities/forms of input.Children with Down syndrome have their own individual characteristics, strengths and challenges and this program is dedicated to assisting in “planting the seeds” needed for each child to reach their maximum potential.Along with speech and language development this program is designed to enhance cognitive, gross and fine motor development and sensory integration.
The multi-sensory environment is designed to promote each child’s individual skills in the following areas:
Gross and fine motor skills Speech and language skills Oral motor development
Feeding and Swallowing Literacy and cognitive skills Sensory processing
Activities of daily living
What makes this program unique? 1.) This program is designed specifically for children with Down syndrome
2.) Program is taught by licensed speech-language pathologist and developmental therapists.
3.) Child has the benefit of experiencing school/group dynamic while receiving therapeutic support to maximize success and generalization of skills.
4.) While working on general developmental milestones, a trained therapist is able to facilitate therapeutic techniques to increase a child’s success in areas of weakness/delay.
5.) All therapists are cross trained for greater carryover of skills & goals throughout the day.
6.) Our program is child and adult guided with structure, routine and child specific goals and support to maximize success in a group dynamic. 7.) Children are placed at their developmental level not by age . 8.) Woodhaven Baptist Church 4000 Kildaire Farm Rd Apex, NC 27539 Class offered Monday & Wednesdays 8:30-12:00 beginning January of 2012. Our space is limited for a low child/ teacher ratio.
