Lisa Smith,  Owner and Director
Masters in Speech-Language Pathology

Lisa is originally from upstate NY and relocated to Raleigh over 10 years ago.
She is a practicing SLP for over 15 years in a variety of settings from medical settings including ICU's to the school systems and early intervention.
With a special love for children, she opened The Aspen Center to provide quality therapy services and preschool programming without the feeling of being in an outpatient clinic or typical preschool.  Lisa is a firm believer in treating the child and family as a whole and began to develop programs and building a team of loving professionals that work together to assist a child in reaching their maximum potential.
She is the creator of the unique Building BLOCKS preschool program which uses a preschool dynamic to facilitate development and teach communication on all levels.  This therapy driven program is unique in the Raleigh area and offers exceptional opportunities for the clients served as well as the professionals that are a part of the facility.

As a small business owner and therapist she is committed to creating an agency that:

Advocates for early multidisciplinary intervention

Provides alternate and unique options for preschool intervention that isnt "molded" by age alone

Creates an environment that allows children & adults to experience how we all have  something to teach eachother

Provides a great place to work and grow as a professional learning that together people can help an entire family and community grow far more than if we do it alone

Brooke Andrews, MACCC/SLP
Masters in Speech-Language Pathology

Brooke graduated with her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburg and relocated to the Raleigh area in 2010.  She has been a practicing SLP for 3 years now and has a varied background.  She has a special interest in early intervention and is skilled in the areas of early language and articulation disorders, developmental delays, fluency, autism and augmentative communication.  Brooke has experience on multidiscipline teams and is an advocate for strong parent involvement as a part of treatment for children.
Brooke believes that learning is a continuous process and keeping up with the latest research and techniques is a crucial part of being a speech language pathologist.  In her spare time, Brooke enjoys yoga, reading, and spending time with family who also reside in North Carolina.

What is Speech-Language Intervention?

Communication begins when a child enters the world and in the first 5 years is dramatically changing.  There are many ways we communicate both non-verbal & verbal and this communication is the way we connect with others.  Communication is a stepping stone to cognitive learning and future skills including reading and writing.  There are certain communication milestones that a child reaches as they grow and sometimes a child may be slightly or significantly behind-that is when a speech therapist can help.
Speech-Language Pathologists also assist with feeding and swallowing issues including oral motor deficits; sensory integration issues and failure to thrive.

Our speech-language pathologists can evaluate and treat your child as needed either at home, at daycare or at our own facility.  We pride ourselves on active parent and educator involvement, creating a team approach for assisting your child's successful communication and interaction with his or her world.  Our speech therapists are a vital role in the Building BLOCKS program and have varied experiences and personalities to provide a well rounded approach to intervention with a child.
